The General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises, known as Monsha’at, has initiated the first session of the University Entrepreneurship Council, attended by officials from both public and private universities, representatives from entrepreneurship and innovation centers, delegates from the Ministry of Education, investment bodies, and governmental entities that support entrepreneurship.
The council’s goal is to reinforce the entrepreneurial spirit within Saudi universities by analyzing the current situation and discussing ways to spread entrepreneurial culture across academic environments. The exchange of ideas and expertise aims to support university-based entrepreneurial projects and activate their role in shaping the local economic landscape, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. University entrepreneurship initiatives benefit from the support of the National Transformation Program and Human Capability Development Program.
The meeting included sharing best practices and experiences from both local and international academic institutions. Opportunities and challenges were presented, studied, and analyzed with the objective of finding suitable solutions to encourage and support the integration and alignment of roles among universities, investment bodies, and entrepreneurial support entities across government and private sectors. This is aimed at empowering entrepreneurs and owners of university startups.
This initiative is part of Monsha’at’s efforts to support and enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem within the kingdom’s academic sector. It aims to empower and develop the Saudi economy, enhance the sustainability of entrepreneurial ventures, and address challenges faced by entrepreneurs, facilitating growth and expansion of their businesses.
